Laura Conan is the first character introduced in the novel I am writing, and the one the reader follows in the first chapter.
She is one of the three caretakers within the girl's orphanage, the Girl House, and definitely the most maternal of the three. Every time I get to write her, I am filled with warm fuzzies and the desire to let someone tuck me in with a blanket and a steaming cup of tea.
She takes so much joy in taking care of her 'little darlings', and is both beloved and respected by her charges. To me, she is made of a combination of solid rock, hearth fire, soft hugs and brilliant smiles.
I love her!
Even if she worries a lot. But to be fair, the world around Midwinter is a scary place! Ghosts, frost goblins and will-o'-wisps are no joke!
