Penny Faye is the character the reader follows in the second chapter.
She is a studious, perfectionistic, fifteen-year old girl, and one of the middle children in the girl's orphanage, the Girl House. Whenever I get to write her, the image that usually comes to mind is a hidden, elegant flower about to emerge from the ice and snow, as she is a young girl about to step into a more mature period of her life.
With her magic newly blossoming, I always felt like hugging her each time I edited her chapter. She is so afraid, yet so eager to get things right, it reminds me a lot of some of my high school classmates worrying about exams.
Poor girl.
After working hard and spending her time in classrooms and her home's study, her reward is to be thrown in an icy landscape full of dangerous spirits and biting winds.
