Weapon Writing #4 Needles

Hello lovelies!

This one may not be obvious, until you know the possibilities. Needles may be considered more practical, everyday tools, used for sewing and medicine, but with they light weight and streamlined shape, they are ideal weapons hiding in plain sight.

So, in this post, I am going to illustrate some possible uses for needles, as well as the type of needles which can be weaponised. Maybe this can show how even the most basic tools can be turned into fighting tools if given the chance.

Material:

When first thinking of needles, you may think of tiny, thin pieces of metal. Those can indeed be used, although not necessarily in their practical forms. Once they are enlarged, with their ends deliberately sharpened, they will be more suitable.

The better way to then use them is by throwing them, similar to darts and throwing knives. Only, they will be more 'hidden in plain sight' than those, because of their seemingly day-to-day, practical nature. This also makes it easy to hide them in between the folds of clothing or any kind of carrying item.

Because of their thin, pointed ends, needles are optimal for coating in poison or neutraliser. It's easy to get into the bloodstream, and not as directly noticeable like, for example, an arrow would be. In all cases, agility and precision in all things are key.

Character Types:

The character types most suitable for someone using needles are typically the types who don't appear to be the fighting or weaponry type, but are actually very agile and precision. This makes them somewhat similar to the needles themselves.

You can achieve this even more effectively if you cast your character in a role or occupation which uses needles in everyday life, meaning they will not only have a good supply, but they will also appear less suspicious.

One of the more obvious roles you could cast your character in is some form of home-maker, using their needles to sew or treat the people in their house and under their care. Having them keep a supply of needles, even if they are bigger or sharper than usual, will not be given a second glance, and most people will let their guard down around a home-maker. Even with the aspect of poison, if it's done with herbs or liquids, it may just be seen as medicine.

However, a position which allows even more proximity and use of poison is that of a doctor or other medical staff. This role actually warrants an even more dangerous character, since they will be trained in human anatomy and sometimes even surgery. Not only that, but a medical professional also has the patient's trust on their side, meaning that they will have an easy cover, but also a good way to get close to victims.

I hope this one sparked some new creativity and ideas for both characters and weapon use. Needles should be used more!
